About Us
The British Columbia Science Fiction Association (BCSFA) is a general interest science fiction fan organisation covering the broad spectrum of science fiction. Club interests include books, art, movies and television, models and collectables, personalities and celebrities, comics, music, trivia, writing (a number of our members are published authors), the history of SF, astronomy, space programs past and present, unusual science — in fact, anything at all to do with SF that you can think of — and finally, the phenomenon of SF fandom in and of itself. Formed in 1970 under the name "British Columbia SF Association", we put on our first convention in 1971, with Ursula K. LeGuin as Guest of Honour and have sponsored numerous conventions and other SF events since, with Guests of Honour like Ben Bova, Robert Bloch, Hal Clement, Samuel R. Delaney, Philip K. Dick, William Gibson, Frank Herbert, Larry Niven, Frederik Pohl, Spider Robinson, Bob Shaw, Robert Silverberg, A.E. Van Vogt, Jack Vance, and Roger Zelazny. In recent years, BCSFA has maintained a separate identity from the West Coast Science Fiction Association (WCSFA), which has been split off from WCSFA to manage VCON, Vancouver's annual science fiction, fantasy, and gaming convention.
